Man in India marries dog as atonement

A man in southern India married a female dog in a traditional Hindu ceremony as an attempt to atone for stoning two other dogs to death — an act he believes cursed him — a newspaper reported Tuesday.

P. Selvakumar married the sari-draped former stray named Selvi, chosen by family members and then bathed and clothed for the ceremony Sunday at a Hindu temple in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, the Hindustan Times newspaper said.

Selvakumar, 33, told the paper he had been suffering since he stoned two dogs to death and hung their bodies from a tree 15 years ago.

"After that my legs and hands got paralyzed and I lost hearing in one ear," he said in the report.

The paper said an astrologer had told Selvakumar the wedding was the only way he could cure the maladies. It did not say whether his situation had improved.

Deeply superstitious people in rural India sometimes organize weddings to dogs and other animals, believing it can ward off certain curses.

The paper showed a picture of Selvakumar sitting next to the dog, which was wearing an orange sari and a flower garland.

The paper said the groom and his family then had a feast, while the dog got a bun.

Bojan Etymology

There is some discussion as to where the name Bojan or Boyan comes from. The usual explanation is that it is derived from the word boj(Бой), which means battle, and the suffix -ан (-an) which is common in Slavic names, like Milan and Slobodan. Together, Bojan means the fighting one.

was camping at home watching couple of movies after work... {The Number 23} and {Vacancy}.... freaking show... one after another...

after finish watching the two movies, as usual juz stoned in my room and listening thru my playlist...

i got even more stoned after listening to {Fade Into You}... suddenly the thought of doing some research on Mazzy Star strike me, hence googled it for awhile and have a very interesting discovery. Red Hot Chili Peppers actually referenced the band Mazzy Star in their song {Aeroplane} on the album {One Hot Minute} with the line below

Road Trip : Melacca 2007

Have not update my blog since ages... so much had happened and yet... so little happened... what a first quarter for the year 2007 and also a chapter in my life.

Bojans have been quiet for some time since the beggining of the year... nothing really was going on since December Drizzle... We have some major plans for the year, however it still looks uncertain... hence me and Omaha have to come up with some quick solution... road trip!

Yes, road trip (kinda like the express chill-out we had in Genting late last year), and this time MELACCA! The initial idea was just me and Omaha to take on this trip, coz we thought that Blondie will be having his class and Choon gotta work and attend an appointment for interview. But who could have guess it, Blondie do not have classes, himself and Jessica are free for the weekend! Choon is willing to take on the journey alone and meet all of us there after his business is done! Cool!

After a quick preparation, Zymeth took off to fetch Blondie, then Omaha, and lastly but not the least Jessica. Had a light breakfast at Old Town Kopitiam in Cyberjaya and off we go to: Melacca ~

The journey took us about 2 hours to reach Melacca. As we do not really have proper planning for this road trip, we basically just whack whatever we come across that look nice.. haha..
We visited Melaka Zoo, Jonker Street, Christ Church Melaka, Church of St. Francis Xavier, St. Paul's Hill & Church, Porto A'Famosa.

It was a great trip. We have plenty of good times throughout the entire visit. Believe it or not, this is the first time Bojans actually accomodate in a hotel!

December Drizzle

Back-track abit... the story goes back to the month of December in 2006....

The Bojans have been planning for a long-waited survival camping trip for months... and things are really happening when all of us finally got our leaves approved.. except for Choon Bojan's case... hahaha... (mc only laa...)

Our destination for this survival camping trip... Cameron Highlands! And as usual... our theme for the trip: December Drizzle~

Day 1: We took off with style! Everyone gathered at Omaha Bojan's keep, load all the gears and stuff into Greyback, took a few photos and off we go!

The trip was quite a long one, took us around 4 hours to reach Cameron Highland.
Primary mission: to find a suitable camp site.
We cut through the hills, drive pass the town... what's the heck with all these commotion?! lots of cars, CH trucks, crowds and shop lots... plenty of strawberry farm, cactus farm, tea farm.... the word for this: COMMERCIALIZED! We can't find our camp site!? After searching for some time... we came to a conclusion that it's not possible for us to do our survival camping here... hence, we settled down in one of the restaurant and have our dinner, steamboat! Once we had our meal, we need to find a place to spend and sleep throughout the night.

Result: Blondie, Jessica, Me (sleep in the car); Omaha, Choon (sleep with their sleeping bag at some bench, longkang, bushes)

After a terrible night, Omaha still managed to snap a beautiful sunrise @ Cameron Highlands.

Day 2: We decided to go back to Frasier's Hill for our survival camping... our familiar spot. The trip from Cameron Highlands to Frasier's Hill took another 4 hours. Bravo to Greyback! Back-2-Back from Cameron - Frasier's... Outstanding first class performance! Respecto~ :D

Upon reaching our usual camp site, without any hesitation we start setting up our tent and camp fire.

Anyway, the funny thing... there's no drizzle throughout the entire trip... we only encounter our drizzle when we reach back PJ.... what a joke! haha....

New Year 2007

Well, there goes 2006 and we are now in 2007.... time... really passes by so fast...

Don't really have mood to write much right now... so I'll just post this few photos and a video clip.

This is our last dinner for 2006. Four seatings, Choon Bojan, Blondie Bojan, Jessica and me. The restaurant is located in one of the shoplots in Kota Kemuning... just a normal Chinese seafood restaurant, nothing fancy. We ordered 4 dishes: a chicken, sotong, vege and a FiSH. The food tasted quite good, chicken and sotong was nice, tHe FiSH very fresh... and there comes the bill.... I was shocked... freaking RM173.20.........!~! What the heck... 4 dishes for 4 person costs RM173.20?!?! .... Apparently the FiSH we ordered.... "顺壳" cost RM120/kg.... we were all shocked and couldn't believe what we just had for dinner.... our last dinner for 2006..... I was abit angry cause felt abit cheated.... hence bargain with the restaurant and price drop down to RM170nett!

After the dinner, we went over to Sunway for the new year countdown with fireworks. We managed to went into Lagoon View Condo and lepak at the pool & playground area until the countdown starts.... 10, 9, 8.... 3, 2, 1...

Boat Show 2006

Omaha and myself visited the long awaited Boat Show 2006! The boat show showcased new boats, marine accessories, water sport products, etc.

Boat Show 2006 was organised by Explorer Marine Centre Sdn Bhd located in Taman Perindustrian Bukit Serdang, Seri Kembangan. Me and Omaha was not that familar with the location, hence we followed the map provided in the leaflet all the way to the site.

When Bojans knew about the boat show, we were 'planning' to have our very own boat one day so that we can have more survival activities in future. Even though we knew we couldn't affort for an ideal boat in near future, but we were very keen on getting a rough idea of the things to take into consideration for getting and maintaining a boat.

As always, below are some of the photos taken in Boat Show 2006.

Some boats comes with a cabin, where you would be able to rest, sleep and chill. This one is one of them!

This boat has a toilet. Some boat's toilet would be located in a special room in the cabin, but the toilet for this boat is juz... located beside the bed... kinda turn off though... haha... just imagine the 'aroma' when you're sleeping beside the toilet bowl....

*arrhhhh.... relaxed.... can chill inside the cabin... how cool is that?!

Just look at the size of this fella!! (*not me, I was referring to the boat). This is the largest boat that we saw at this event.

Omaha and I learn something new from this boat show visit. We've get to know the range of the boat with their estimated price tag. Hopefully Bojans would be able to come up with sufficient fund to get our very own Bojan Boat! (not to forget we need to get a bigger vehicle to tow this baby! hahaha...)

[My Ride] - part 3

2 weeks ago had a TT session with my fello Accent members. Been sharing thoughts and ideas about maintaining and mod for our beloved ride. I've got this idea from one of the member to 'tint' the tailamp. I like the idea and gave it a GO!

Bought myself a piece of red color 'tint' stickers and try DIY. Photos below shows the result.

There's another story about the tyres on my ride... my luck these days were ... well... let's just say i'm not doing so well lately...

Was on my way back home after work, halfway pass Sunway and all the sudden saw a rock/stone/brick (hell I've got no idea what was it), wanted to avoid it but too late... heard a loud sound, stopped my car and went down to have a check... there goes my front left tyre... burst. I wouldn't wanna tell the hassle after that.

Next day morning went out early to get myself a new pair of tyres. And this is the baby I got back :D

Express chill out at Genting - City of Sintertainment

We Bojans constantly need to have places to chill... to get stoned and be survival are the things running in our mind, always. Nothing much happened lately, so a quick and express way of chill out is an alternative, and so, here we are in Genting Highlands, The City of Sintertainment.

The trip was actually quite a sudden, a late call. Rumour has it that the Red Serpent was having a night stay with his colleague up in the mountain, hence the rest of the Bojans representing each of their own clan joined later.

To the delight of the Bojans, several colleagues of the Red Serpent were quite adventurous, especially ONE in particular! Without furthur doubt, the Bojans lead and guide them on a secret path to a secret place. Due to the fact that it's a secret path into the secret place, no details and explaination will be made available here.

What's the difference between a nerd, a geek, and a dork?

We've been called all three, and to be honest, we always assumed they meant the same thing. However, according to the cool kids, there are differences.
Official definitions for nerd, geek, and dork each use the words "inept" and "foolish." Nerds have the added distinction of being "unattractive." Ouch. While it's hard to argue with the dictionary, we sought out definitions from the Internet at large.

According to Whatis.com, nerds are people of above-average intelligence who place little importance on their appearance. Nerds are often aware of their status, but they don't mind. In fact, many take pride in the putdown, as it means they're smart and not wrapped up in superficial worries.

Geek is a more specific term. Back in the day, geeks worked at carnivals, and (according to the dictionary) "bit the heads off live chickens." Thankfully, the term now has a different connotation. Like nerds, geeks are smart, but they tend to focus more on technology. As Urban Dictionary explains, these are the people you make fun of in high school and later work for as an adult.

Being called a "dork" is the biggest insult of the three. There's no way you can spin it into something positive. After all, even the dictionary writes that dorks are "stupid" people. And to make matters worse, dorks assume they're cool. Oh, and they smell, too.

So, to sum things up, if someone calls you a geek or a nerd, thank them. If someone calls you a dork, consider going back to school and investing in some new deodorant.

what about me? I'm not smart or have the above-average intelligence like the nerds do... I'm not a pro with the new gadgets, technology etc out there... may be i'm just a dork.... or simply creep or... weirdo...

Listen
Simply listening to her problems can be the best gift you can give her, according to Susan M. Axtell, Psy.D, a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in Beverly Hills, CA. “Make her feel heard and understood,” she advises. “Women need someone to listen to them. They need to vent about a situation and talk it through because they don’t want to keep their pain inside. Throughout history, women have been socialized to emotionally connect with others when times get tough.” Axtell recommends active listening, where you reflect back what you’re hearing. “Guys generally like to fix situations,” says Dr. Axtell, “and when they can’t, they get frustrated.” But she says it’s important — make that imperative — to give yourself an attitude adjustment. “Women don’t need things fixed the way men do. She’s not looking for you to repair what’s wrong—she’s just looking for you to be there for her,” Axtell says. Many times, women need to scream, wallow, cry, or do whatever it takes to process their emotions. Only then will they be able to develop a plan of action or plot their next move. That’s when it’s time to offer help—without telling her what to do. “Say, ‘What can I do to help you?’” advises Puhn. Then listen and follow her cues. What if she says there’s nothing you can do? Puhn suggests asking, “Would you like my suggestions on some things you can try?” To avoid adopting a know-it-all attitude, you can preface your advice with: “This is something that worked for me when I was in a similar situation.”

Help her maintain perspective
When women are stuck in the middle of an ordeal, they can feel like it’s the end of the world. Men are usually more apt to look at the big picture—which is why it’s your job to give her a reality check. “If she missed a big deadline at work and is convinced she’s going to get fired,” Puhn says, “tell her that other people have been in this situation and have escaped unscathed. Give specific examples.” You don’t want to dismiss her problems or appear unsympathetic—you simply want her to see that she will survive this, no matter how bad it gets. That’s what Joseph Franklin, 38, of Tulsa, OK, did when his girlfriend was audited by the IRS: “She was going into total panic mode, so I started listing the people we knew who had been audited and had lived to tell the tale,” he recalls. “We even called a buddy of mine who was audited last year and had actually gotten a refund from the IRS in the end.” Real-world examples like this will remind her that she can indeed weather the storm.

Take her mind off it
When Jamie Horne, 35, of La Crescenta, CA, lost her mother to cancer, her boyfriend was a pro at helping take her mind off her grief. “He would pick me up at work and take me to Disneyland for no reason,” she recalls. “Or he’d bring over some bad 80s movies and popcorn and tell me we were having a movie night.” Pampering and distracting her helps because it shows that someone’s taking care of her needs. Because women are conditioned to be caretakers, it feels wonderful when someone takes care of them for a change. So massage her shoulders. Take her out for Thai food. Buy season one of her favorite show on DVD and watch six episodes straight. Just remember: While it’s fine to distract her from her problems, you should never ignore them. “Taking her mind off her troubles for a little while is an appreciated break,” Dr. Axtell explains, “but if you ignore her problems or get down on her for talking about them, it will seem like you’re avoiding them altogether—which isn’t helpful at all. “

Curb the criticism
Guys are raised to be protectors and solve problems, says Dr. Axtell. Women have a different way of dealing with a crisis, so don’t get bent out of shape if she doesn’t follow your advice. Just because she deals in a different way than you might have, doesn’t mean that you issued bad advice or that she doesn’t respect your opinion. It just means that she followed her own heart—which is never a bad thing. Simply be supportive of her decisions and resist the urge to tell her what she “shoulda/coulda/woulda” done instead. She handled her crisis the way she needed to—all the while drawing strength and courage from the fact that you were by her side. And once you’ve survived this tough time together, the good times ahead, as your relationship blooms, will be even sweeter.
